The diagnostic imaging area in the current Veterinary Teaching Hospital is extremely well equipped and provides in-house service in diagnostic radiology, digital fluoroscopy, diagnostic ultrasound, nuclear medicine, multi detector computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging at 1.5T. All diagnostic imaging is completely electronic, with digital radiography systems in 2 small and 1 large animal rooms. A fully integrated web based Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS allows for easy report generation and image distribution throughout the Teaching Hospital. The RIS and PACS are readily accessible from off site.

There are 3 other full-time radiologists, 1 part-time radiologist, 1 radiology Instructor, 5 radiology residents, and 11 technologists and support staff. The 1-year radiology Instructor position is typically filled by the individual after completion of the 3rd year of the NCSU radiology residency. The Instructor provides independent clinical coverage and is allowed to focus on an area of interest to attain a higher level of expertise.

Current faculty radiologists are congenial and team-oriented and are excited about the prospects of furthering the development of imaging at NCSU in collaboration with the talents and ideas of a new faculty member. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a wonderful workplace with enthusiastic students, technologists and other faculty specialists who work together to provide excellent veterinary medical care, and to advance the knowledge base.

The radiology faculty is committed to making this position as flexible as possible to fit the desires of the successful applicant. Clinical service can be tailored to suit the interests of the faculty member. This could range from a majority of time spent in diagnostic ultrasound to clinical coverage divided between modalities.

Excellent opportunities exist for independent or collaborative investigational activities and for innovations in teaching. Strong ties exist between the College and area medical schools. These attributes should be of particular interest to faculty pursuing a tenure track career.

The College has recently broken ground for the new 120,000 square foot Randall B. Terry Companion Animal Medical Center, a world-class veterinary medical center that will contain an expansive state-of-the-art imaging area. Long-term plans for development of an Equine Medical Center are also underway.

The Veterinary College at North Carolina State University is cognizant of the economic aspects associated with academic careers in veterinary medicine. An incentive plan has been developed that provides opportunity for innovative measures that can lead to salary supplementation and also provide benefits to the College.
