Kennel assistant positions available immediately at Shenandoah South Veterinary Hospital, located in southeast Baton Rouge on Tiger Bend Road. We like to treat people’s pets as if they were our own. We are seeking to employ people who like pets–cats, dogs, and sometimes birds, rabbits, and reptiles. Most pets are very loving, but pets are messy, and pets have teeth. In spite of these characteristics we need to treat and help pets. The work is at times routine, at times exhausting, but so rewarding. Periodically there are very unique cases, and there is always something to learn about pets.
We have high standards at Shenandoah South Veterinary Hospital and have earned the seal of approval from American Animal Hospital Association. We perform office visits, drop off service, same day surgery, intensive care, surgery, hospitalization, isolation cases, boarding, baths, and daycare. With such a variety of services offered, and pets must be cared for 24/7, staff is needed for days, weekends, and holidays. We rotate weekends and holidays so that our valuable staff can “have a life”. We also appreciate having a congenial and cooperative staff that can work out scheduling conflicts when they occur. Many of our employees have worked while getting their college courses and then gone to vet school or veterinary technology school. For the most part our schedule is school friendly. We have 2 weekday shifts: AM from 7AM - 1PM and PM from 12:30 PM - 6:30 PM. Staff teams work alternate Saturdays from 7Am - 1PM. Sundays rotate between all staff members and has 2 shifts AM and PM. Sunday AM begins between 7 - 7:30 AM until work is finished about 9:30 AM Sunday PM begins 4PM and is finished about 6pm. Our employees like the fact that they can still have quality time off on weekends to study, recreate, or go out. The schedule appears to be part time, but employees typically log in 32 - 40 hours per week. There is also opportunity for extra shifts. The positions available now are entry level jobs with pay associated with skills. Monday thru Friday pay is hourly base wage. Saturday pay is base plus 20%. Sunday pay is base X 1.5. Holiday pay is base X 2. Payrolls are 2X monthly with automatic deposits available. Medical insurance is available after 3 month trial period. Pension Plan and paid vacation days are available after 1 year employment. The kennel assistant positions at Shenandoah South Veterinary Hospital involve basic animal care of people’s pets mostly cats and dogs. Feeding, walking, cleaning kennels and runs, disinfecting, bathing, trimming toe nails, brushing, moving pets, weighing, observation, some record keeping, administering medication, restraining, laundry, sweeping and mopping, interacting and communicating with owners.
